Plus more f-bombs than usual. If you prefer your profanity with symbols in the place of vowels and/or say “gosh darn it” when you violently stub your toe, maybe skip this one.
I am reminded of a friend from Rugby, UK. He once told me that the town's motto was, "In the middle, where it matters" and quipped it was the only thing going for the place. (Never having been there, I can't corroborate either the motto or the qualities of the town.)
This was a great, and timely read; thank you for sharing. It resonated with me so much, especially the part about being in the middle of a run - I actually have a shirt that says I run so I can eat cake. I too am in the middle, in many things, so I appreciated this thought process.
JMJ, thanks for this, Loleen! Great timing, as I'm in the throes of my fieldwork overseas with all of its ups and downs, and fending off feelings of loneliness and overwhelm. I'm gonna celebrate tonight with a pizza from the local bar and a movie that reminds me of home. xo
I have fallen behind in substack reading and muddled through having personal and professional substack newsletters coming to the "wrong" inboxes. End-of-May seems like a different kind of middle than February so this post still resonates!

That is awesome, Rachel!
Have been struggling reengaging with the writing of my dissertation...this article made me think about the process. Thank you!
I am so glad to hear that, JM!

I am so glad it resonated with you, Stacey, and appreciate you letting me know. Thank you for that!
You are a goddamn delight.
oh thank you - that made me smile! :-)

I am so glad you will be taking the opportunity to celebrate, Carole. That is wonderful!

No matter where I am, Nicole, I seem to be in some middle or another! :-)
